“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.”

Ready to find your new best friend? Please see our Adoption Information page and complete an adoption application.

The Dog-a-Log showcases adoptable Labs with their bios from DLRR and foster families. It is emailed only to approved adopters. To inquire or meet a Lab, contact the listed foster.

At this time, we are only able to place dogs within the State of Arizona. Because we are an Arizona-based, all-volunteer organization, our process requires in-state home visits, meet-and-greets, and ongoing local support.

Bella

Bella is the most wonderful Lab we have ever had the privilege of
fostering. Sweet Bella, is a 5 year old shiny black spayed  Lab
with possibly just a bit of mix in her. She is Pure black with a small white
area on her chest. She is a perfect 67 lbs. of pure gentleness. Bella came to
us from a family in Tucson with 4 small children 3,5,7,9 years old.  The
family needed to relocate and was unable to take her along. Her demeanor
is gentle in everything she does, from eating to shaking her paw. She is
quiet, inside, she will follow you everywhere looking for rubs and snuggles.
She has wonderful manners in the house. The best you will ever
find. One of the things she loves most, is being outside just sniffing and
exploring. When our neighbors dogs peaks over the wall at her and barks,
Bella just looks at her and walks away calmly. Bella will increase her
activity level with what's going on around her. She is fun and playful,
but is always a gentle lady.  We have a pool, but she does not seem to
have any interest in going in. We have introduced her to the doggie door,
which she seems to like, but is not overly interested in that either.
She loves walks where she can sniff everything from rocks to
flowers. When she is left alone in the house, she likes to just rest on
her bed and nap till we come home. On her walks, she pulls a bit, mostly
because she is so excited to go, but responds well when corrected.  She
has had all her immunizations and is ready to find her new home.

We believe the best home for Bella is one with children to run and play
with or a family that is active and enjoys the outdoors and definitely a
back yard with grass.  She wants to be part of a  family that
will have time for her and not leave her alone. She is so sweet and loveable.
Bella is an amazing girl, has so much love to share and wants a family
that will give her that love back.

Coal

Meet Coal (5), the Singing Sous-Chef & Professional Best Friend

Are you looking for a shadow that’s as sleek as a panther but as
goofy as a cartoon character? Meet our resident social butterfly, Coal (5)!
This 2-year-old 74 pound Black Lab is the definition of
"happy-go-lucky." He’s got a wag for every person he meets
and a literal song for every walk he takes.

The Highlights:

The Vocalist: He doesn’t just walk; he performs! When he’s
excited (which is basically any time his leash comes out), he likes to
"sing" to the neighborhood to let them know he’s arrived.
Coal is working to refine his leash skills, and walks well once the initial
excitement (and song) is over.
The Food Critic: He has a very refined palate—specifically for anything
you leave on the kitchen counter. Because he's an aspiring "counter
surfer," he should be crated when left alone to keep him (and your
snacks and belongings) safe!
Model Student: Speaking of the crate, he is a total pro. He is content in it
with a peanut butter Kong when you leave and settles right in and sleeps
soundly through the night.  Coal has learned “sit” and is
working on “down” in addition to his basic manners in his foster
home.
Independent Player: While he loves your attention, he also entertains himself
beautifully with his chew toys. Give him a sturdy bone or a rubber toy, and
he’s a happy camper.  Be warned- a few “stuffies” have
seen their demise on his watch.

His Social Life:

Dog-Friendly: He is a true "pack" dog and would do best in a
home with another canine buddy to show him the ropes and keep him company.

Cat Status: We are unsure how he is with cats at this time, so slow
introductions would be a must (or a feline-free home might be easiest).
Children: A true lover, Coal might be a little too affectionate with little
children.  Older kids would be great for this happy boy!

Ideal Home:

Coal would thrive with an active family that appreciates a dog with a big
personality. He’s looking for a home with another dog to play with and
a family that doesn't mind a little "background music" on their
daily strolls.  If you think Coal would be the perfect sidekick- text
his foster mom ASAP.

Draco

Background:

Draco is a shy but stunning 70-pound Lab/Great Pyrenees (“GP”) mix with a genuinely sweet personality. He has a thick, white/cream colored, heavy-shedding coat and is estimated to be about three years old. Found as a stray in Pinal County on December 1, 2025, he was brought to the shelter, where a volunteer immediately stepped up to care for him until a foster could be located. DLRR welcomed him just before Christmas.

Draco appears to have come from a difficult past. Early on, he was fearful of everyday interactions—being leashed, touched, or approached. With gentle handling and a calm, predictable environment, he has made impressive progress in a short time.  As his fosters, we believe Draco had little to no experience living indoors, but he quickly learned how to use the doggie door on his own. He can still be stubborn, skittish, and easily startled by household noises or sudden movements, and he remains very alert to his surroundings.

Furever Family Supportive Criteria:

Draco needs a confident, patient adopter who can guide him through new experiences and continue helping him build confidence and basic manners. Slow, calm introductions to new people, places, and pets will help. He will do best with someone who is home-based and can help him gradually learn to feel secure when left alone.

Draco has been around a variety of dogs but does not do well with hyper, high-energy canines or chaotic -environments. He has been wonderful with our calm senior Lab and has done well meeting low-energy neighborhood dogs. He would thrive with a mellow canine companion, but he could also do well as an
only dog with an adopter he can bond with and learn from.  When Draco feels safe, he is very affectionate, enjoys being petted, and rides nicely in the car.

Draco can be a counter surfer.  He has been resistant to the crate but sleeps soundly through the night with free roam of the house. He had one accident during his first few days with us but has been fully reliable
since.

Draco will occasionally steal socks left on the floor, but he has not shown any destructive behavior. He enjoys emptying the toy bucket, chewing on Nylabones, and may chase a frisbee—though his attention span is
short.

Current Medications / Supplements:

  • Prebiotic/Probiotic (gut health)
  • Trazodone (as needed for anxiety or stressful situations)
  • Eukanuba
  • Simparica (monthly flea and tick prevention)

Health Testing:

  • Negative for Valley Fever
  • Negative for Tick Fever
  • Negative Heartworm test

Adopters who can offer time to decompress, reassurance, and lots of love will see Draco continue to blossom. He is a loving, sensitive boy who simply needed space to feel safe—and he’s thriving now.

Draco is a work in progress and may be best suited for an adopter with experience in GP/Lab breeds. If you have the time, patience, and heart to help this beautiful boy continue to grow, we’d love to talk and see if
you might be the right match.  *NOTE: Approved adopters PLEASE submit a Text if you fit the above criteria and include your first and last name and contact number on file with DLRR.  Thank you!

Fisher

Hello, my name is Fisher and I am a 2.5-year-old, 69 lb. Lab mix who is
bursting at the seams with love to give.  My foster mom says I am the
best boy because I am potty trained, nondestructive when left home alone
uncrated, I don’t bark, I take treats very gentle, I don’t jump
on people, and I am always so happy to see her when she gets home from work
and I show her with a few zoomies. I live with my foster sister who lets me
follow her around and lay next to her in the grass to sunbathe. My foster mom
has food in a bowl 24/7 so I eat whenever I feel hungry. I share the bowl
with my foster sister, and we eat together just fine. I am still learning to
walk on a leash, I do not pull at all, I just walk slowly checking everything
out. I can live with other dogs, but I am just fine being your one and only
also. My foster mom’s house is kind of busy with teenagers coming and
going and I am totally good with all of them. I love all the pets they give
me. I am not shy when people visit my foster home. But my beginning has not
been the greatest so I will need you to be a little patient with me when you
first take me home. It took me about 3 days to know my foster mom loved me
and that I was safe and now I love the heck out of her. If you think you are
ready to be completely loved and adored, I am your guy. I will lab love you
until the end of time and be the best boy ever.

Jack

My name’s Jack and I am the most loyal and smart companion you could
ever want! I think I was supposed to be a “Bird” dog but now I am
a “Ball” dog. I love to play fetch and I bring the ball right
back. I especially love to dive into the pool for it. I can also find that
ball anywhere, even if it goes deep into a bush where all you can see is my
little wagging stub of a tail! I’m told it’s really cute but I
can’t really see it anymore! My fur is short and easy to care for. I
dry quickly when it is time to go inside.

When I am inside, I like to be near my people. I am trained to use my
special doggie door to go potty outside. I am excited to announce that I
don’t have to wear those silly pants anymore! I guess I have a thing
called diabetes insipidous which makes me really thirsty and have to pee a
lot. I used to then dribble a little inside without even knowing it! NOW, I
get peanut butter 3 times a day and I don’t dribble anymore! I think
Mom & Dad might hide something in it to help me.

I have been with DLRR for over a year now and I am really ready to find my
furever home. I am 4 years old, neutered, and weigh 70 pounds. Once I get my
exercise, I settle down in the house for loving companionship. I have been
very gentle with a 2-year-old toddler that comes to visit occasionally.
I’ve even taught her how to play fetch too! Sometimes I have stayed at
other homes for short times and everyone falls in love with me! I have lived
with dogs, but I’m really more interested in my people. I see other
dogs on walks but I am not interested in meeting them. I am more interested
in the bunnies. I sleep through the night on a dog bed but I would really
like to be in the big bed to cuddle with my people! I am crate trained,
however, when my people leave me, they don’t crate me anymore and I
have been a very good boy. Unless, of course, something tasty is left within
my reach. Hey, can you blame me?

I’m anxious to meet my forever family to show them how much joy I
bring into a home. If you are looking for loyal companionship along with a
fun, active best friend, I’m your guy!

Journey

Journey is a 5 year old, chocolate Lab mix weighing in at a healthy 70
pounds and just like the other, more well known
“Journey,”  who wrote the song “Don’t Stop
Believin” HARTT and DLRR would not give up on this guy!

Journey was a stray for more than 2 years before he was trapped by HARTT,
so we know nothing about his past.  But we can tell you that this guy
will blossom with the right adopter who can appreciate his sensitivities and
provide him with a loving and secure environment to become the best version
of himself.  His foster mom reports that he is a wonderful dog and a
fantastic house guest and would be staying on with her if it were
possible.

Journey has a perpetually wagging tail, is super sweet and is eager to
meet new people, on his own terms.  He will venture up for a quick lick
and then just sit and admire you while he gets comfortable.  He is a
happy dog who has shown no interest in the pool, but loves a chin scratch and
a belly rub once he is comfortable.  He loves a hard bone and will
prefer to have one in his daily routine!  He also loves to chase and
pounce on a ball but is ambivalent about returning it to you.

Journey gets along well with other medium to large dogs and loves to play,
but does not want to be around little dogs.  No guard dog here, Journey
will not alert you to a delivery truck and is not a barker, except when he
gets excited to play!   Journey does well on a harness and leash,
but is afraid of cars and will “freeze” when they go by, so an
adopter should initially consider walking routes with little or no traffic,
until Journey acclimates. He is learning to ride in the car, each jump in
becomes easier!

Due to his past, Journey cannot be in a crate or a kennel – however,
no big deal as he is not destructive or a counter surfer when left alone.
Like most Labs, he loves his food and treats, and takes them gently.  He
is housetrained and uses a doggie door (but not required).

He sleeps peacefully on his dog bed in his foster’s bedroom –
but sometimes he likes to leave and sleep elsewhere.  He has spent the
night outside (when two chihuahuas were at the foster’s home for a
night – but, hey, can you blame him?) and sometimes can be a bit
stubborn about coming in after he’s been out – but after living
on the street, he is loving a wonderful grassy lawn.

Journey’s perfect family would provide a calm, loving, playful and
secure environment for him to feel comfortable.  High walls are a must
as he may be tempted scale a shorter wall.

Older children only, as younger children will be too energetic for him to
relax.  Be careful of those gates!

A doggy companion to play and show Journey the “ropes” and
build his confidence would be wonderful, and a grassy yard is a must.

Journey’s fosters are happy to discuss him with any potential
adopter, we are looking for a perfect fit for this wonderful, beautiful
boy!

Louie

Meet Louie – Your Freckled Adventure Buddy

Louie is a 9-month-old yellow Lab mix with the cutest freckled face and a
heart that is 100% pure sunshine. This sweet boy had a rough detour when he
was found outside a homeless shelter, but thankfully kind volunteers knew
immediately—this was a family dog who just needed a second chance.

When Louie first arrived, he was a little unsure of the world
(under-socialized puppies sometimes are), but oh my goodness… once he
warms up, his zest for life absolutely shines. He is full of joyful puppy
enthusiasm, curiosity, and tail-wagging optimism.

On leash, Louie zigzags like he’s trying to sniff every story the
world has to tell. He pulls a bit—not because he’s reactive
(he’s wonderfully non-reactive to other dogs!)—but because
everything is exciting and he wants to experience it all at once. With
continued puppy training and consistency, he’s going to be an amazing
walking partner.

He’s been introduced to another dog and proved to be a fantastic
playmate! Because he has the strength and exuberance of a growing Lab boy,
he’d do best with a confident, playful sibling rather than a tiny or
older dog who may not appreciate his bouncy enthusiasm.

Louie LOVES:

• Fetch sessions in the yard

• Hiking and outdoor adventures

• Sniffing absolutely everything

• Snuggling up with his humans after a full day of fun

He does show interest in birds, ducks, and geese on hikes (future wildlife
enthusiast, perhaps!), but he hasn’t been around cats yet.

Louie is still a little unsure about hopping into the car and currently
needs a boost, but with continued exposure and encouragement, we’re
confident he’ll gain that independence in no time. Once he’s in,
he settles nicely and rides well.

Louie is looking for a family who will invest in his continued training,
nurture his confidence, and guide him as he grows into the incredible adult
dog he’s meant to be. In return, he’ll give you loyalty,
laughter, adventure, and the sweetest snuggles.

If you’re ready for a freckled sidekick with endless love and a
joyful spirit, Louie is waiting.

Luna

Luna (20) is a 63 pound, 8 year old, spayed, female black lab with a big
heart – both figuratively and literally. She is shy at first and very timid,
but after a few weeks, she will come out of her shell and is really a very
sweet, loving, loyal dog. She loves to go on walks – although not very far –
and car rides, but mostly she loves just being with her people and getting
her ears, neck and belly rubbed. She is house trained and can be left alone
to her own devices for several hours. Her favorite toys are stuffies and toys
that squeak. If you toss a toy, she will saunter over to it, pick it up and
gently bring it back two or three times – and then she is done with that
game. She can use a doggy door, but prefers to go in and out the human door.
She is good with children and other dogs and is ambivalent about cats.

As noted above, her heart is enlarged and she has a significant heart
murmur. Her heart condition makes any surgery impossible unless it is for
life saving purposes. The vet has recommended that we monitor her respiration
while she is sleeping, and if it ever gets above 35 breaths per minute she
should be brought into the vet’s office immediately. Her current
sleeping respiration rate has stayed between 14 and 20. This condition is
currently stable and could remain so for several years. She is on a grain,
sweet potato, chicken, and legume diet, with no salt to support her heart
health This can be purchased premade or a recipe to make it can be provided.
She takes trazodone twice a day for anxiety and pimobendan twice a day for
her heart condition. These medications will need to be provided to her for
the duration of her life.

Mozi

Meet Mozi: Single 4.5-year-old chocolate Lab seeking loving family to
spend quality time together! I love snuggling, long walks through the
neighborhood, snuggling, playing with my toys (especially my stuffed toys),
snuggling, hunting for socks, snuggling, taking naps, snuggling, playing with
my foster sister, and snuggling. Nothing fills my heart more than spending
time with the people that I love! I do not love cats, spending time alone, or
the vet but I do love car rides and sleeping in my crate. I’m very
well-mannered!  Of course, I’m house trained and you should be
too! I’m seeking a family that is home the majority of the time so that
we can snuggle! All of my friends say that I am the sweetest and most
enjoyable, easy-going companion and that any family would be so lucky to have
an amazing girl like me!

I am also so special that I come with my own chair to eat in! It’s
true! I call her Bailey because it’s my Bailey chair for my
megaesophagus. I love sitting in her to have my meals and hang out with my
foster family for a while after I eat. I know that my foster mom would be so
happy to show you how easy it is and how much fun I have in it!

Sirius

Hi! My name is Sirius and I’m a 1-year-old, 65-pound purebred
chocolate Lab who is full of enthusiasm and ready to experience all that life
has to offer. I’m a happy, playful guy who loves being around my
people. In fact, if you let me, I’ll happily become your shadow and
follow you everywhere. I just like being close to my family. I’m
housebroken and I know my basic commands thanks to time spent working with a
professional trainer. I’m a smart boy and I really enjoy
learning—especially when treats are involved (they’re my favorite
motivation!). With a little guidance and consistency, I pick things up
quickly.

I have lots of playful energy and love games like chase, tug-of-war, and
chewing on bones or tug toys. I do well with other dogs and enjoy playing,
though I can be a little rough-and-tumble in typical young Lab fashion. The
good news is I take corrections from older dogs really well and respect their
boundaries. Cats are interesting creatures to me. If one runs, I might chase
because it looks like a game—but I’m curious more than anything
and can be redirected. With more exposure, I think I could learn how to live
politely with them.

My previous owners were a sweet senior couple who loved me very much, but
my big puppy enthusiasm was a bit overwhelming for them. Because of that, I
spent a lot of time in a kennel and didn’t get many chances to
experience the “real world.” I’m still learning what
everyday home life looks like, and I’d love a family who will help
teach me the ropes.

I’ll go into my kennel with some persuasion and usually settle down
after a few minutes, but it’s not my favorite place. I much prefer
being out with my people. Since I’m still a curious young Lab, I might
occasionally borrow a shoe or investigate the trash if no one tells me
otherwise. I’m not trying to be naughty—I just need continued
guidance so I understand what’s expected of me.

What I really need is a confident, consistent leader who will give me
structure, accountability, and plenty of positive experiences. If
you’re willing to put in that little bit of effort at the beginning, I
promise I have so much potential to become an amazing companion. I seem
to do well with kids and tend to match their energy, which makes playtime
pretty fun for everyone. I’d love a home that will include me in daily
life, take me on adventures, and keep my mind and body busy.

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, energetic Lab who just needs
a little guidance to shine, I might be your guy. I can’t wait to meet
my forever family and start our adventures together.

Tracker

Loyal companion probably best describes Tracker, a three-year-old altered
male. Tracker shows all the attributes of an enduring friend who will idolize
you at every turn. He has a sweet disposition and loves cuddle time and his
daily walks. Occasionally, he swims when he feels like it. Tracker will need
some continued leash work as he is new to the game, but he is not a hard
puller by any means. While crate-trained, he shows no predisposition to be
destructive in any way. He is mostly social with his foster companions and is
learning how to play. Tracker is very playful when given the opportunity but
also can settle down very quickly. He is the truest of gentlemen when taking
treats; gentle and not overly food-focused.

Waldo

Guess what? I found Waldo!!! I brought him in for some training
since he was a stray for SOOO many years….. He’s been in
training for a month and has done very well. Now, Waldo would like to tell
you about his time since being with me.

I am 2 years old and weigh in around 45 lbs. I have been loving all the
structure and training I am getting, for I love a job to do and to please my
human(leader). I am currently living with 3 other dogs, a cat and 2
tortoises. Due to my natural instincts, it would be best to live with no cats
and or with a cat that is dog friendly and does not hide. I love being
with and pleasing my person. I am fully house and crate trained and
enjoy being with other K9’s that are on the calmer side. I am very
independent and can entertain myself, though it’s much more fun when I
can play with my human(s). Smaller children I don't recommend for how
quick I can play and move. I am looking for a home that is mildly active that
could include hikes, agility work, and getting me out regularly and providing
the structure, leadership, love and activity level I have been thriving
under, for this is where I am my best! Keeping up with my training will be
key, for I am loyal as they come and will always be by your side when you
need me.

Now that I have been found, I would love to find my Furever
home!
