River
Meet River — a handsome 3½-year-old black Flat-Coated
Retriever mix with a heart as gentle as his name. While his exact mix is
unknown, many think he may have some Border Collie or Australian Shepherd in
him. Whatever the blend, River is equal parts loyal companion and playful
spirit.
True to his name, River mostly flows through life with calm, easygoing
energy. Around the house, he’s peaceful, affectionate, and wonderfully
well-mannered. He loves lounging nearby, soaking up pets, and quietly follows
his human from room to room. When left alone, he settles nicely and knows how
to self-soothe. He’s fully housebroken and truly shines as an indoor
companion.
River also enjoys walks and games of fetch, where his playful side really
comes alive. Like many sensitive dogs, the outside world can sometimes feel a
little overwhelming for him. Most of the time he walks beautifully on leash,
but exciting moments — especially noisy or reactive dogs — can
occasionally bring out his “river rapids” with some pulling and
barking. The good news? River has already made wonderful progress with
training and just needs a patient, consistent adopter to help him continue
building confidence.
Because he prefers peaceful routines, likes to graze at mealtime, and can
be protective of his resting space, River would thrive best as the only dog
in the home.
If you’re looking for a loving, soulful, low-key best friend with a
playful spark, River may be the perfect companion for you.
