Coco Bean
Hi there, I am Coco Bean, 8 year old Chocolate Lab. I may be 8 but I’ve got the playful demeanor of a younger dog. I’m currently working on my leash skills because my previous owners only walked me about 1x weekly. I love walks and get excited when I see my leash, so I’m learning to channel that energy and not pull. My life prior to 8 months ago is a bit of a mystery to my foster family, as I was purchased off Craigslist. But we don’t let that stop me from having a great time in my foster home and living my best life now. We channel the good ol’ Disney motto from The Lion King, “Hakuna Matata”… it doesn’t matter, it’s in the past.
I’m quickly adapting to foster life, settling into the routine my 2 resident lab sisters are teaching me. I am focused on learning to walk politely on a leash, enjoying two meals a day, and lots of snuggles and family time. My previous family let me free feed – which may be why I have a few extra pounds to shed. I now eat 2 meals daily and am doing great at getting into better shape. It helps that my foster mom is training for a race so we are eating healthy and exercising together.
I also love balls and playing fetch. I may be 8 years old but that doesn’t mean I’m slow – I can run fast and I am a great retriever. Belly rubs and being brushed are also the way to my heart!
It’s unknown how I’d do around cats, as my foster family hasn’t seen me around them. I do get excited around other critters so ideally I’ll go to a cat-free home, but I could probably learn to treat them nicely like family. I could do well in a family with another dog or two that I can play with, or I could thrive as a solo spoiled pup too. I love attention, whether it’s being spoiled by humans or playing with other doggy pals.
I ride pretty well in the car. I take treats gently from people’s hands. I do whine from time to time when I want attention at home, but I’m a very fast learner at commands, like learning to be “quiet”. I already know “sit”, “down”, “off”, “paw”, “walk” and “go to your crate”. I’ve been waiting a while for the right structure and attention to help me live my best life. It’s about time! My birthday is January 30th, and I’d love to be home before my 9th birthday. Better yet, I’d love to be home before Christmas. Will you help make my dreams come true? Please text my foster mom if you want to meet me. (I’ll even bring a tennis ball along!)
