Coal

Meet Coal (5), the Singing Sous-Chef & Professional Best Friend

Are you looking for a shadow that’s as sleek as a panther but as
goofy as a cartoon character? Meet our resident social butterfly, Coal (5)!
This 2-year-old 74 pound Black Lab is the definition of
"happy-go-lucky." He’s got a wag for every person he meets
and a literal song for every walk he takes.

The Highlights:

The Vocalist: He doesn’t just walk; he performs! When he’s
excited (which is basically any time his leash comes out), he likes to
"sing" to the neighborhood to let them know he’s arrived.
Coal is working to refine his leash skills, and walks well once the initial
excitement (and song) is over.
The Food Critic: He has a very refined palate—specifically for anything
you leave on the kitchen counter. Because he's an aspiring "counter
surfer," he should be crated when left alone to keep him (and your
snacks and belongings) safe!
Model Student: Speaking of the crate, he is a total pro. He is content in it
with a peanut butter Kong when you leave and settles right in and sleeps
soundly through the night.  Coal has learned “sit” and is
working on “down” in addition to his basic manners in his foster
home.
Independent Player: While he loves your attention, he also entertains himself
beautifully with his chew toys. Give him a sturdy bone or a rubber toy, and
he’s a happy camper.  Be warned- a few “stuffies” have
seen their demise on his watch.

His Social Life:

Dog-Friendly: He is a true "pack" dog and would do best in a
home with another canine buddy to show him the ropes and keep him company.

Cat Status: We are unsure how he is with cats at this time, so slow
introductions would be a must (or a feline-free home might be easiest).
Children: A true lover, Coal might be a little too affectionate with little
children.  Older kids would be great for this happy boy!

Ideal Home:

Coal would thrive with an active family that appreciates a dog with a big
personality. He’s looking for a home with another dog to play with and
a family that doesn't mind a little "background music" on their
daily strolls.  If you think Coal would be the perfect sidekick- text
his foster mom ASAP.
