Draco
Background:
Draco is a shy but stunning 70-pound Lab/Great Pyrenees (“GP”) mix with a genuinely sweet personality. He has a thick, white/cream colored, heavy-shedding coat and is estimated to be about three years old. Found as a stray in Pinal County on December 1, 2025, he was brought to the shelter, where a volunteer immediately stepped up to care for him until a foster could be located. DLRR welcomed him just before Christmas.
Draco appears to have come from a difficult past. Early on, he was fearful of everyday interactions—being leashed, touched, or approached. With gentle handling and a calm, predictable environment, he has made impressive progress in a short time. As his fosters, we believe Draco had little to no experience living indoors, but he quickly learned how to use the doggie door on his own. He can still be stubborn, skittish, and easily startled by household noises or sudden movements, and he remains very alert to his surroundings.
Furever Family Supportive Criteria:
Draco needs a confident, patient adopter who can guide him through new experiences and continue helping him build confidence and basic manners. Slow, calm introductions to new people, places, and pets will help. He will do best with someone who is home-based and can help him gradually learn to feel secure when left alone.
Draco has been around a variety of dogs but does not do well with hyper, high-energy canines or chaotic -environments. He has been wonderful with our calm senior Lab and has done well meeting low-energy neighborhood dogs. He would thrive with a mellow canine companion, but he could also do well as an
only dog with an adopter he can bond with and learn from. When Draco feels safe, he is very affectionate, enjoys being petted, and rides nicely in the car.
Draco can be a counter surfer. He has been resistant to the crate but sleeps soundly through the night with free roam of the house. He had one accident during his first few days with us but has been fully reliable
since.
Draco will occasionally steal socks left on the floor, but he has not shown any destructive behavior. He enjoys emptying the toy bucket, chewing on Nylabones, and may chase a frisbee—though his attention span is
short.

Adopters who can offer time to decompress, reassurance, and lots of love will see Draco continue to blossom. He is a loving, sensitive boy who simply needed space to feel safe—and he’s thriving now.
Draco is a work in progress and may be best suited for an adopter with experience in GP/Lab breeds. If you have the time, patience, and heart to help this beautiful boy continue to grow, we’d love to talk and see if
you might be the right match. *NOTE: Approved adopters PLEASE submit a Text if you fit the above criteria and include your first and last name and contact number on file with DLRR. Thank you!
