Mars

Mars is a 4 year old 50-lb pointer lab mix with all the wonderful traits of both breeds – smart, pleasing, loyal, friendly, athletic– and an extremely endearing personality. Her two foster families have fallen in love with her, kids and adults alike!

Mars came to be in DLRR’s care via MCACC, so while some of her history is a mystery, here is what we have learned through having her as one of our favorite guests in our home:

Traits:

  • gentle
  • people-pleasing
  • submissive (if she gets into something or picks up the wrong ball (dryer ball, kids’ baseballs, etc), she easily surrenders it. She is submissive with other dogs too.
  • affectionate. She loves to cuddle and have her paw or head on your lap!
  • timid around new people
  • loves walks/jogs (distance is no problem), her family, other dogs, and chew toys.
  • is not a bolter/runner, but does like to be outside and explore.

Skills: She knows “sit”, responds well to “no”, and is housebroken.

Other Considerations:

  • Mars needs training with healing on a leash, recall, and counter surfing.
  • She gets really excited when she sees other dogs walking.  If you let her say hello, she greets them very nicely. We’ve been using a transitional leash which she does well with!
  • She sleeps in a crate through the night.
  • She barks at new people, but has not shown any signs of aggression.
  • She can be left alone uncrated while you’re gone, although will occasionally get into trash or chew paper items (and then hangs her head low when you return… she’s just so sweet and smart!)

Mars is a very special dog! If you’d like to learn more about her, please contact me – I could go on and on about all that I love about her.
