Lena
Meet Lena — A Little Dog with a Big Brave Heart
Lena is a petite, 3-year-old Lab mix who has had a rough start to life.
Rescued from a hoarding situation alongside her brother, Doobie, Lena spent
nearly a year in the Winslow shelter before a kind-hearted Good Samaritan
stepped in to give her a second chance. Now, she’s in a loving foster
home, where she’s learning that the world isn’t such a scary
place after all.
All of these early experiences have left Lena feeling unsure of the world
around her, but she’s made wonderful strides in foster care. With a
little patience, kindness, and encouragement, this sweet girl is slowly
discovering the joys of simply being a dog.
Lena is fully potty trained, sleeps through the night (and has recently
discovered that dog beds are much comfier than the floor!), and is
non-destructive when left unsupervised. She loves her morning pets and walks,
isn’t particularly interested in toys, but has discovered that a peanut
butter Kong is a pretty wonderful thing. We haven’t focused much on
commands yet because, for Lena, the priority has been building confidence and
enjoying life’s simple pleasures: gentle pets, yummy treats, and cozy
naps.
Lena wants to please; sometimes she just needs a little extra time to warm
up or find the courage to try something new. She’ll thrive with
patient, understanding adopters who will let her blossom at her own pace and
celebrate all the little victories along the way. Having a confident canine
companion could also help show her the ropes and reassure her as she
continues to come out of her shell.
And here’s a sweet thought: could Lena and her brother Doobie find
their way back to each other? They could potentially be adopted together and
reunited!
Lena has already shown us just how much progress a little love and
security can bring. Now, she’s looking for a forever family who will
give her the time, patience, and gentle encouragement she needs to keep
growing. In return, they’ll get a very sweet girl who is learning to
trust, one brave little step at a time.
