Mozi

Mozi is a joy! She is a beautiful Lab who loves you and other dogs and loves food, but she loves nothing more than to be with her people She will often find you when you’re quiet and lay with her head on your feet companionably. Mozi loves her foster brother Kade and will play tug of war with him, using a toy or a sock if an appropriate toy can’t be found. She was very anxious when she came to me and barked a lot (when left in her crate at night or during the day when I had to go out.) But as time passes, she is calming down and feeling safer, and the barking is less.

Mozi has Megaesophagus. This is a disorder in which the esophagus gets larger in size and consequently loses its ability to transport food. When this disorder occurs, the food accumulates in the dog’s esophagus causing the dog to regurgitate. To prevent this from happening, Mozi sits and eats her meals in a Bailey chair. I use a small food processor to make her food into a slurry before feeding it to her. She is exceptionally smart and learned the Bailey Chair in a week and now will sit the requisite 25-30 minutes twice a day after she eats a meal. Sitting up in her chair allows gravity to help her get her food from mouth to stomach. She remains calm and obeys “Sit” and it’s a great time to bond with her. She lets me do some chores around the kitchen while she is sitting, if I don’t ignore her.  She’s doing great and has not been symptomatic since she has settled into her protocol near the beginning of June. The Bailey chair was purchased by DLRR and will go with her for an additional charge. This is necessary for her health and happiness so please don’t call on her if you don’t have the ability and desire to feed her in this manner. I can help you get the hang of it if you wish.

Mozi is a joyful, playful dog and loves to chase birds in the back yard (although she’s never gotten closer that 10 feet away!) If I wasn’t so committed to fostering, I would take her in a heartbeat. She would be okay as an only dog, but I suspect she would like a sister or brother. She is highly social and would probably enjoy a family as well. I do not know personally how she gets on with cats or small kids, but she’s shared her home with bigger kids, and her intake says she gets along with cats. She walks well on the leash, and obeys Sit, Shake, Down, Kennel Up (or Good Night which sends her to her crate). She is house trained. She loves car rides and rides quietly, napping if the trip allows.

Mozi is one of the most beautiful Labs I’ve ever met. Please decide if you are willing and able to give her the love and time and attention she needs. She’ll make you proud. Caution: she will steal your heart, so use your head first and decide if you have what it takes to be her perfect family.
