Luke

Meet 5 1/2 yr old Luke, a big, fluffy, goofy, handsome, and sweet, purebred Lab who always has a smile on his face!  He’s your typical Lab–wants to be part of everything that’s going on, loves his people, likes food, likes to swim, likes walks and going on car rides, and snores like a freight train!  Luke’s owners were divorcing and unfortunately he was an innocent victim.  Luke is extremely overweight and is on a weight loss program that involves diet food and exercise.  He weighed in at 115 when he came to us, but he has lost 5+ lbs already.  He probably has 30 more to go to be his best, most healthy self.  He will definitely feel better when he gets to that goal weight-we are already seeing more pep in his step!  The good news is that he loves to walk and his stamina has steadily increased as he does it more and sheds some pounds.  Luke is very gentle and would be ideal with children of any age, as he has proven himself around a baby and a 3 year old.  He is trustworthy in the house when left alone for hours at a time and always goes outside to do his business.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Luke was walked much in his former life or that he had many experiences outside of his house and yard because he is very distracted by (squirrel!) and interested in (squirrel!) everything he sees (squirrel!) when he is out and about (squirrel!).  We have been working very diligently on his leash skills and he has improved, but he will need an adopter who is committed to working with the DLRR trainer (at our expense) to learn how to have a great time walking Luke.  His new adopter must also commit to slimming Luke down to his ideal weight. Luke is not a counter surfer nor does he play ball or have any interest in bones or toys.  He is living with another Lab in his foster home, but he doesn’t play with her.  He mainly likes human interaction in the form of petting–the more the better, and if anyone else is getting any, look out–Luke will be there in a flash to make sure he isn’t left out!  If you feel Luke may be the dog for you and you feel your home is in need of some yellow dog hair, text his foster and we’ll talk fur….thur!
