Kenta Oh boy…..Boy is right!! Kenta is a nine-year-old, male, yellow lab weighing in at almost 115 pounds. His name is of Japanese origin and is often associated with meanings like “healthy, strong” and “big, large.” Very appropriate for this boy!!! But do not let his size fool you…he is very gentle and loving and he is ready for his fur-ever family. He came to DLRR due to his owner’s health issues and no one else was able to take him in. His bark is quite alarming at first, but he greets everyone happily and enjoys every single pet he receives. He is very agile for his age and loves to run around and do his “dog stuff”! He likes to play with a ball occasionally but has zero interest in other toys. He knows basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “down” and is incredibly good about coming when called. He is very eager to please! It is important to him to be near his people. He is not a fan of being left out of any activity and will be vocal about his displeasure initially but settles down fairly quickly to wait. Normally he is simply happy to rest, patiently napping close to those he loves. He currently spends nights in the living room easily but will surely adapt to any area of your preference. Due to his height, he does some counter surfing if he smells food but after being told “no”, he does move along without a problem. He has been enjoying his time with his foster sister. They play some but mostly he just loves to be near her. They nap closely so he would be good with another dog in the home but would even be great all on his own. He will bark at and chase the resident cats in his foster home, so it is not recommended that he be adopted by someone who also has cats. He is usually quite eager to get in the car and while he pulls initially on his leash, he does take correction very well. Food and daily enrichment activities that include snacks are his favorite things. We eat fruits and vegetables here and while he has enjoyed sampling them all, watermelon and berries are his favorite. He will never turn down a chance at a bite of roasted chicken! This incredibly darling boy is a very special soul so if you are looking for a larger companion, text his foster mom to schedule a visit!
