Jack is a three-year-old Labrador Retriever and German Shorthaired Pointer mix that was bred for hunting. When you consider the temperament of the Labrador (outgoing, intelligent, kind, friendly, agile, gentle, trusting) and the temperament of the GSP (boisterous, intelligent, bold, affectionate, cooperative, trainable) you get the perfect picture of Jack. He is full of life and full of fun! Jack’s favorite things to do are to eat, swim and play fetch. If you don’t have a pool and space to play fetch, then you are not the right fit for Jack. He needs a family that will play ball with him in and out of the pool for at least 30 to 45 minutes a day. He also enjoys getting out for walks and walks pretty well on a K-9 transitional leash. In the house, he will be your shadow and rest by your side while you are stationary.

Jack is crate trained and uses a dog door. He sleeps through the night on a dog bed and can be trusted alone in the house. (As long as there is nothing of interest on the edge of the counter!) Jack gets along well with both large and small dogs although he doesn’t interact a lot with them. We don’t know about cats. Jack does well around children but may get too rambunctious with very energetic children. Jack does not ride well in the car. He gets so excited to go on an adventure that he becomes very vocal and animated. High energy locations also get him very excited. He is calm and affectionate at home, but gets very excited in new places. He would probably do best in a family that does not plan to travel with him and take him places.

Jack is currently on Proin for incontinence. He occasionally dribbles a few drops of urine when walking or resting. He has been to a few vets and had several tests, but the cause for the incontinence has not been diagnosed.
