Aspen Aspen was abandoned on a hiking trail in central AZ. An experienced rescue volunteer was able to gain his trust to slip on a lead so she could transport him to Pinal Shelter in Casa Grande. We do not know how long he had been on his own, but judging by his low weight, he must have been fending for himself for a while. Although he was shy and reserved when the shelter team evaluated him, we quickly assessed he had a heart of gold. His warm brown eyes and snow-white coat made him strikingly handsome. His personality is endearing because he’s a mellow boy at the age of five. Aspen sleeps through the night on his dog bed, is potty trained, knows how to use the dog door and knows the command sit, walks well on a training leash and is not leash aggressive. He can be trusted when left alone in the house. He likes the company of his foster sibling who gives him space. A young dog with lots of energy and wants to play a lot might be too much for Aspen’s low-key nature. Although Aspen was diagnosed with heartworm, he has tolerated treatment extremely well. He will need a follow-up appointment by his adopter’s vet in October 2025. This sweet boy has come a long way both physically and mentally since he came into the shelter. With the love and care of his foster, he has learned to trust humans again, showing his affection by soliciting pets and choosing to rest peacefully at his foster’s feet when she’s on the couch. His foster has slowly added the much-needed weight to his lean frame and his fur, once brittle, is now soft to the touch. Aspen is a gentle loving soul that has demonstrated resilience during the toughest of times. He’s ready to find his forever home that will provide the stability and care he so deserves. Are you that adopter?
