Allie

Allie is a beautiful 4-year-old purebred spayed chocolate Lab weighing in at 70 pounds. She inherited her beautiful reddish-brown coloring from her mother who was a chocolate Lab and her father, a silver Lab. Allie has the energy of a young Lab and still exhibits some puppyish behaviors. She loves to play fetch – more so indoors than outdoors. She plays with her toys and will destroy them. She walks well on a K-9 transition leash, a harness or a martingale collar. She will pull a bit out of excitement past the first few houses and then settles down for the rest of the walk. She is not leash reactive with people or animals. When she receives enough attention and exercise, she settles down and is a very loving girl.

Allie is a bit anxious but overall rides well in the car. She has learned to use a dog door in her foster home but has not shown interest in the pool. She is crate trained and sleeps quietly all night in her crate. However, when left alone in her crate she barks and whines. Allie will counter surf, pull towels off towel racks and pick up things she shouldn’t, but it is rare that she chews up anything that does not belong to her. Like a puppy, she needs to be monitored in a home and taught appropriate behaviors.

Allie has lived with small children and is in a foster home with another dog. She was surrendered to DLRR due to mild resource guarding of food and high value items like toys or bones. Because of this she probably should not be in a home with small children or another dog that has resource guarding tendencies. She does coexist well with and wants to play with other dogs.

Allie can be a bit fearful of people when she first meets them, but she warms up quickly. Although it took her a few days to settle into her foster home, she has already become very attached to her foster daddy. Allie needs a home where she is not left for long periods of time since she needs to be crated and barks and whines when left alone. Even uncrated, she doesn’t like being left alone. She needs an adopter that has time to play with her, walk her, train her and spend time with her to burn off her energy and help her be the best she can be. If you feel you can provide these things for Allie and would like to meet this beautiful girl, please text her foster.
