Buddy
I’m Buddy!
Here’s my story, as best as can be pieced together, since I
can’t really relay in words!
I was found as a stray and taken to the Yuma Shelter, and DLRR was able to
rescue me and help me find my forever family! The folks at DLRR think
that most likely I was adopted as a tiny puppy and just put out into a yard
with no training…and when I got bigger my family just abandoned
me.
Nonetheless, I am the sweetest, most lovable, most
“licking-ist” guy around and my sad past has not damped my
spirit and my love of meeting new people and new dogs! In fact, my entire
body wiggles back and forth – seriously, my tail is definitely wagging
this dog!
I am about 1.5 years old, weighs a trim 61 lbs. and have a glossy coat,
huge ears, two cute little scraggly bottom teeth and a wide grin!
Here’s the deal, I am, like most people and dogs, a work in
progress. I am a very excited high energy boy, my foster mom takes me for
long, fast walks and I am still energetic when we arrive home! I am learning
to be ok, but just ok, in the crate. I would much rather cuddle up to
you in bed or on the sofa! I am learning where to do my business, ha ha
– and as I have been in a real foster home for a few days I am getting
better and better at it! I am a smart boy and have taken well to
working on learning all of the finer etiquette tricks!
I take treats gently and I am not particularly treat motivated…and
I do zig-zag on the leash. I am not reactive to other dogs or
people walking by, I just mind my own business; I need a bit more
confidence to jump in the car (a little boost for now is best!) but once in
the car I ride like a true gentleman!
I will not lie – I will need a lot of attention and training,
I’m basically a big puppy and haven’t seen a lot in life, so I do
need to be introduced to new things and to learn how to behave – I am
trying hard not be mouthy, or to jump or paw at people. An adopter who
is into training and teaching and exercising me would be the best thing!
I would do well in a home where I have a buddy to play and teach me
the ropes! Given my age and athletic build, I would make a perfect walking
and hiking companion – which, as we know, helps burn off puppy
energy… just sayin’!!!
